It can be either one. Dirt or wear in the charging port gives the same symptom as a bad battery. Help Cell checks first and, if needed, recommends charging port replacement.
My phone battery is swollen. What do I do?
Turn the phone off, stop charging and don't press the raised part. Bring the phone in as soon as you can. A swollen battery does not go back to normal and must be replaced.
