iPhone corrosion cleaning is the chemical cleaning of the logic board (the main circuit board) after the device gets wet. The technician opens the iPhone, removes the moisture and the corrosion that water leaves on the contacts, and tests each function before handing it back. What to do now with a wet iPhone
In the first few minutes, the most important thing is to cut the power to the device. With water inside, a live battery pushes current where it should not go, and that is how a simple problem becomes damage to the board.
What to do in the first few minutes
Take the iPhone out of the water and turn it off with the buttons. If it has a case, remove it. Take out the SIM if you know how, dry the outside with a soft cloth, and leave the device somewhere dry and airy, away from the sun. Then bring it to the shop.
What not to do
Don't turn it on to see if it works, and don't plug it in to charge. Also don't use a hair dryer, oven, rice or compressed air: heat pushes the liquid further inside, and rice leaves dust in the connectors. Every attempt at home costs time for the person who will clean the board.
Why water ruins an iPhone, even after it dries
Water itself dries. The damage comes from oxidation, the corrosion that forms on the metal contacts of the board and keeps spreading for days, even when the device looks dry.
That is why an iPhone can work fine the day it fell and have a problem a week later: charging that stops, a screen that fails, sound that doesn't come out. The logic board is the main circuit board that connects everything in the device, and that is where corrosion does the most damage.
Fresh water, salt water and other liquids
Salt water is the worst: salt conducts electricity and leaves crystals that corrode fast. Soda, juice and coffee leave sticky sugar. Pool water has chlorine. And what about the factory water resistance?
Many newer iPhones leave the factory with water resistance, but it is not permanent: it gets weaker with drops, heat and daily use. It was also not designed for sea water, drinks or hot water. Don't count on it as a reason to wait.

Common mistakes with a wet iPhone
Turning it on to see if it worked
It is the most costly mistake. With liquid inside, turning it on closes the circuit in the wrong place and can burn the board.
Burying the device in rice
Rice does not draw the moisture out of the board, and it leaves dust in the connectors. The time lost there is time for corrosion.
Waiting for the iPhone to work before bringing it in
If it turned on, great, but corrosion may already be starting. Showing the device to the technician early costs less than waiting for the fault to appear.

Don't try to restart or charge it until the technician has looked at it.
Note what fell in and when

My iPhone fell in water and turns on normally. Do I need to bring it in?
Yes. Corrosion keeps spreading inside even while the device works, and the fault can show up days later. Turn it off and bring it in for an assessment.
My wet iPhone won't turn on. Can it be fixed?

Will I lose my photos and data?
The cleaning itself does not erase anything, and the data stays on the device. The risk is that the board does not work again. So, if the iPhone still turns on, make a data backup right away.
Does corrosion cleaning come with a warranty?
Help Cell offers a 90-day warranty and explains what it covers for your service before you commit. As a rule, new liquid damage is not covered.
Can I charge my wet iPhone to see if it turns on?
No. Charging a device with liquid inside can burn the board. Leave it off and bring it to the shop.
