A charging port cleaning removes the dirt that builds up inside the cable port and covers the metal contacts. When a phone won't charge or the cable doesn't fit, this buildup is one of the most common causes, and removing it often brings normal charging back. At Help Cell, the contact cleaning is done as a courtesy, at Floripa Shopping.

What the phone's contact cleaning is

The charging port is the opening where the cable plugs in. Inside it are small metal contacts that carry power into the phone. If the opening fills with dirt, the cable can't reach the bottom, the contacts don't touch properly, and the phone charges poorly or not at all. The cleaning removes that dirt and clears the way for a proper connection.

The phone does not need to be opened for this, and nothing is replaced: it is a maintenance step, not a part repair.

Where the dirt comes from

Most of it comes from everyday use: dust and lint from your pocket or bag, beach sand, and humidity. Each time the cable goes in, it pushes a little of that material deeper, until it forms a packed layer that stops the cable from fully connecting.

Lightning, USB-C and micro USB

Lightning is the port on older iPhones, and USB-C is the port on newer iPhones and on most Android phones. Dirt builds up the same way in all of them. The difference is the shape: USB-C has a thin metal blade in the center that bends easily and needs even more care.

Cleaning is not repair

Cleaning solves the problem when the cause is dirt. If the port is bent, loose, rusted, or the logic board is damaged, cleaning is not enough, and Help Cell will tell you right away when that is the case. Then the next step is a different service, and the price is quoted on WhatsApp.

Signs

When to ask for a charging port cleaning

If you recognize any of these six signs, start with the cleaning before thinking about replacing any part.

The cable does not go all the way inIt stops before the bottom, as if something were in the way.
It only charges in one positionYou have to hold the cable at an angle for the charge to come in.
Slow charging or charging that stopsThe phone fills up slowly or stops charging without warning.
Good cable, but nothing happensYou already tried another cable and another outlet, and it still won't charge.
It came back from the beach or the seaSand and moisture get into the cable port easily.
Loose cable that slips outPlay in the connection: the dirt may be pushing the cable out.
Step by step

How the courtesy cleaning works at Help Cell

Four steps, based on what your phone really needs.

  1. 1

    You tell us what happens

Send us the model and how charging fails, by WhatsApp or the form.

  2. 2

You bring the phone to the store

Help Cell is inside Floripa Shopping, open Mon–Sat.

  3. 3

    We clean the contacts

The technician cleans the cable port and tests whether charging is back.

  4. 4

We tell you what we found

If charging is back, that's it. If not, Help Cell explains the fault and gives you the repair price.

Scope

What the courtesy covers and what it doesn't

The cleaning is a courtesy. Any repair that comes up later is a separate service, agreed with you beforehand.

Included as a courtesy

  • Cleaning of the contacts in the cable port
  • A test to see whether charging is back
  • An explanation of what is causing the problem
  • Advice on the next step, if needed

Not included in the courtesy

  • Replacing the charging connector, when it is damaged
  • Logic board or battery repair, if that is the cause
  • Chemical cleaning for a phone that fell in water
  • New cables and chargers

What if the cleaning doesn't fix it? What changes the repair price

The cleaning itself costs you nothing, because it is a courtesy. If the problem is something else, the price depends on what is damaged, and Help Cell only gives you a number after looking at the phone, on WhatsApp or in the store.

What to avoid before you bring the phone in

Many people try to fix it themselves and make it worse. This section lists the mistakes that usually cause trouble and what to do before going to the store.

Common mistakes when touching the charging port

Poking a needle, toothpick or paper clip into the port

Metal objects scratch the contacts and can short-circuit them, and the USB-C blade is thin and bends easily. A port that was only dirty can end up with a real fault.

Forcing the cable in

If it won't go in, something is blocking it. Forcing it pushes the dirt deeper and can bend the port or the cable itself.

Blowing into it or using liquid

Saliva and too much alcohol bring moisture into the phone, and moisture causes rust. If the phone got wet, don't charge it and bring it in for a check.

Checklist: before going to the store

Try another cable and another charger

The fault is often in the accessory, not in the phone. If another cable charges normally, the problem was the cable.

Look into the port with a flashlight

Just look, don't touch. If you see lint, dust or sand, cleaning has a good chance of fixing it.

Write down how charging fails

Note whether it stops, only works in one position, or doesn't start at all. These details help the technician find the cause faster.

What customers say after their phone charges again

Real reviews from Help Cell customers, straight from Google.

Matheus looked after me very well! He was super attentive and managed to help me with my phone, which had dirt in the charging port. He fixed it quickly and explained everything clearly. Excellent service!

Efficient service on WhatsApp from Mykael and in the store from Josué. Excellent service! I took my phone in to replace the charging connector, but the technician checked it and, after a cleaning, found that the replacement was not necessary. The store did not charge for the cleaning either. Transparent, honest service and quality work. I recommend Help Cell!

Questions

Frequently asked questions about charging port cleaning

Does the charging port cleaning cost anything?

Cleaning the contacts is a courtesy from Help Cell. If the technician finds another fault, such as a damaged connector, that repair is a separate service and the price is agreed with you beforehand, on WhatsApp +55 48 99110-7381.

How long does the cleaning take?

Ask on WhatsApp when you arrange your visit, because the time depends on the condition of the cable port. The up-to-2-hour timeframe from Help Cell applies to screen and battery replacements.

Will I lose my phone's data?

No. The cleaning only works on the cable port and does not touch photos, contacts or apps. If you want to be safe before any repair, read Will I lose my data when I repair my phone? and check the phone backup service.

How do I know if the problem is dirt or a faulty connector?

Dirt usually builds up slowly: the cable fits worse and worse over time, and it gets worse after the beach or a full bag. A damaged connector usually comes from a drop or from pulling the cable sideways. If you're not sure, the courtesy cleaning is the first test.

Can I clean the charging port at home?

We don't recommend it. Needles and paper clips scratch the contacts, and liquids bring moisture into the phone. If you want to try something first, just look into the port with a flashlight and test another cable.

Is the cleaning for both iPhone and Android?

Yes. Dirt builds up in the port of any phone, whether it has Lightning, USB-C or another standard. Help Cell works on all brands, but we do not sell phones or unlock them.

What if my phone still won't charge after the cleaning?

Then the fault is in another part, such as the connector, the battery or the logic board. The technician explains what was found and gives you the repair price, without pressure to say yes. To understand the causes, read Cable does not fit or phone does not charge: cleaning or replacement.

Does the repair after the cleaning come with a warranty?

Repairs come with a 90-day warranty, which covers defects in the service and in the replaced part. It does not cover drops, liquid or misuse after the repair.
