What MacBook chemical cleaning for water damage is
It is a cleaning done inside the MacBook, on the logic board, not a cloth wiped over the keyboard. The liquid that gets in leaves residue and, over time, causes oxidation, the corrosion that creates green or white crust on the contacts and can burn small parts.
In the service, the laptop is opened, the battery is disconnected and the logic board gets a special product that dissolves the residue. Then comes drying and testing. If any part has already been damaged, it shows up in this check.
Why just drying doesn't fix it
Drying removes the visible water, but not the sugar from coffee, soda or juice, or the salt from seawater. These residues stay on the board, attract moisture and keep corroding for weeks, even when the MacBook seemed normal.
Water, coffee and soda are not the same

Hold the power button until it turns off, and disconnect cables and accessories.

Keep it open with the keys facing down, on top of a cloth, so the liquid can drain.

Only the surface. No hair dryer, no oven, and don't push anything into the gaps.

Drying it with a hair dryer or leaving it in the sun
Heat doesn't reach the points inside, and it can push the liquid into other areas. It also hardens the sugar from the coffee on the board.
Putting it in a bag of rice

Waiting to see if it gets better

Will I lose my files and photos?
