What to know before choosing a service
Four simple tips that help you avoid wasted money and lost data.
Data: make a copy first
Backup comes first
Almost every repair keeps your data on the device, but only people with a copy sleep easy. If the phone still turns on, make a backup before handing it over.
Phone that won't turn on
In that case, the way forward is data recovery, which depends on the condition of the board. The fewer attempts to turn it on, the better.
Charging: start with the simplest
Cable, charger and port
Change the cable and the charger first. If that doesn't fix it, dirt in the port is the next suspect.
Don't use a toothpick or needle
A metal object in the port can damage the contacts. Leave the cleaning to the bench.
Software: formatting is not a repair
Formatting erases everything
It puts the phone back to factory settings. Without a backup, photos and chats are lost.
Physical damage doesn't go away
If a part is faulty, formatting won't fix it. The assessment shows which case it is.
Water damage: speed matters
Don't turn it on or charge it
Turn it off, remove the case and SIM card, and bring it in as soon as you can. Turning on a wet phone can burn the board.
Rice doesn't help
It doesn't remove moisture from inside the components. What helps is chemical cleaning at the bench.

Do I pay for charging port cleaning?
Contact cleaning is a courtesy and often fixes the problem. If the issue continues, Help Cell explains whether it needs a deeper charging port cleaning or a replacement.
