What nobody tells you before repairing an iPad

People who bring an iPad in for repair often forget simple details that change the result. These are the most common.

Common mistakes when repairing an iPad

Opening the iPad at home with a card and a hair dryer

The iPad glass is large and thin, and the battery is glued underneath. If you force it, the whole glass can crack and the battery can be punctured, which is dangerous. If the screen is already cracked, just cover it with clear tape and bring it in.

Still charging an iPad whose screen is lifting

If the screen is coming away from the frame, the battery may be swollen. Turn it off, stop charging it, and don't press on the device.

Turning on an iPad that fell in water

Turning it on with liquid inside can burn the board. Turn it off, don't charge it, and bring the iPad in as soon as possible.

Make a backup if the iPad still turns on

Screen and battery repairs should not erase anything, but a backup protects you from surprises.

Write down the model

In Settings, General, About, the model name appears. With it, the store can give you a price without seeing the device.

Have the charger and your passcode ready
