What a phone data backup is

Cloud backup and computer backup

What is and is not included in a backup
Usually, photos, videos, contacts, calendar, settings and the list of apps are included. Some items need extra care, such as chats from messaging apps and saved passwords, which may have their own copy. When in doubt, ask before you delete anything.
A backup is not the same as data recovery
A backup is made while the phone works, and it is a safety copy. Phone data recovery is a different service, for when the phone no longer turns on or opens. The sooner the copy is made, the less you will need it.

What nobody tells you before making a backup
People who back up in a hurry often find out too late that the copy was incomplete. These are the most common slips.
Common mistakes when backing up your phone
Trusting an old backup
If the last copy was made months ago, everything after that is not in it. Make a new copy before you hand the phone over for any repair.
Erasing the phone before checking the copy
Never reset or restore the phone without opening the backup and checking the photos in it. If the copy failed, the phone is still your only source.
Forgetting the cloud account password
Without the iCloud or Google account password, there is no way to pull the copy onto the new phone. Test access beforehand, on another device or on a computer.

Charge the phone and use a stable network
A backup stopped by a dead battery or a weak connection is left half done. Keep the phone charging and on Wi-Fi.
Write down the model and the account you use
Knowing the model and which email is linked to the cloud speeds up service. The model is usually shown in Settings, under the phone's information.
Have your lock code at hand
To copy the data, the phone has to be unlocked. Confirm with Help Cell what it will ask from you.

Will I lose my data when I repair my phone?

How long does a backup take?
It depends on the amount of photos and videos and on the speed of the internet or the cable. Ask for an estimate on WhatsApp with the model and the approximate size of your data.
Can I back up my phone with a broken screen?
Often yes, if the phone still turns on and responds to touch. If touch does not work, there are other ways, which depend on the model. Message us on WhatsApp before you try on your own.
Does the backup keep chats from messaging apps?
It depends on the app and on your account settings. Many apps have their own backup, which must be turned on. Help Cell checks this with you before the repair.
What if the phone won't turn on anymore?

Do I need to pay for a cloud plan to make a backup?
Only if your account does not have enough space. The other option is to copy to a computer, which does not need a plan. Help Cell explains both options.
