Face ID and True Tone after a screen replacement
What can change on the iPhone after the repair.

When you compare an original or aftermarket screen, the difference shows up in brightness, color, touch and durability, and almost always in price. See what each type gives you and how to choose without falling for empty promises.
Summary
An original screen is the part made by the manufacturer of the phone, the same one that came from the factory. An aftermarket (parallel) screen is made by another company, to fit the same model, and it does not have the same origin.
At the counter, the names get mixed up and that causes confusion. It is worth separating the terms before you compare any quote.
Not every shop uses these words the same way, so the right thing is to ask what the term means for them. Generally, the words are used like this:
| Term | Usually means | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Original | Part made by the manufacturer of the phone, the same as the one from the factory. | Is it new or taken from another phone? |
| Genuine | Term used for a part of good origin, often from the same production line. | Who made it and where does it come from? |
| Compatible | Part made by third parties, designed to fit your model. | What is the quality and what warranty does it have? |
| Parallel (aftermarket) | Another way to say a third-party part, outside the manufacturer's supply chain. | Is there more than one quality level available? |
Note that "genuine" and "compatible" do not have one official definition. So the name on the receipt matters less than the technician's explanation of the part that will go into your phone.
In practice, what changes is the image and touch quality, how long the part lasts and how much battery it uses. With good third-party screens the difference is small. With low-quality ones, it shows up on the first day.
The original screen usually has strong brightness and accurate colors, and you can see them well in the sun. A simpler aftermarket screen can look dimmer, with a slight yellow or blue tint, and lose brightness outdoors. If you use your phone at the beach in Florianópolis, you will notice this more than someone who stays indoors.
A bad part can fail in one corner, respond slowly or touch by itself. You notice it when you type, scroll fast or play games. Many third-party screens have good touch, but it depends on the factory and the batch.
Lower-quality screens tend to use more battery and show defects sooner, such as spots, lines and dead pixels. If you have already seen a new screen with stripes, read about the green or black line on the screen: it can be fixed to understand where the problem comes from.
| Point of comparison | Original screen | Aftermarket screen |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness and color | Same as the factory screen. | Varies: from very similar to quite dim. |
| Touch response | Follows the phone's standard. | Depends on the factory and the batch. |
| Battery use | Normal for the model. | Can be higher on simpler parts. |
| Lifespan | Long, like the factory part. | Less certain, needs a clear warranty. |
| Phone features | Keeps all of them. | May lose some features on certain models. |
| Repair price | Usually higher. | Usually lower, with some caveats. |
The screen of the same phone can be made with different technologies, and that explains much of the difference in price and image. The best known is OLED, where each pixel lights up on its own and black is truly black. The other is LCD, which uses a backlight and usually has less intense color.
Some third-party part makers switch from one technology to the other to cut costs. The fit is the same, but the image is not. On models that came from the factory with an OLED screen, the LCD version uses more battery and loses contrast, even with normal use.
Compare the new screen with the old one on a dark background, with brightness at the maximum. If black looks gray, or if the image is too bright at the edges, the part is lower quality. Ask to test the touch in the shop before you take the phone away.
There is no single answer: the best screen is the one that fits how you use the phone, the age of the device and your budget. A phone you plan to use for many years needs a more durable part than a backup phone.
| Your profile | What matters most in the choice | Most common choice |
|---|---|---|
| You use the phone for work and photos | Accurate color and touch without failures. | Better-quality part and a clear warranty. |
| Old phone that will not last long | Cost of the repair. | A simpler option may be enough. |
| Child's phone or second-hand phone | Resistance to drops and price. | A simple part and a good case. |
| You want to sell the phone later | Looks and how it works. | A part that keeps the model's features. |
| Tourist with a few days in the city | Time and warranty. | A part available right away, explained at the shop. |
| Company fleet of phones | Standard and repeat of the same part. | One part for the whole team. |
If you are unsure whether to replace the screen now or wait, read first cracked screen: can you keep using the phone until you replace it. A cracked glass usually gets worse over time, and the screen does not hold up to daily use.
On iPhone, a screen replacement needs one extra check: some features depend on the new part talking well with the phone. So what happens after the replacement depends on the model and the part you choose.
The point that worries customers most is face recognition. In general, replacing the screen alone should not affect it, but True Tone, which adjusts the screen color to the light around you, can be lost on some parts. All of this is explained in Face ID and True Tone after a screen replacement.
Help Cell does the iPhone screen replacement in up to 2 hours on most models, at Floripa Shopping, in Florianópolis. The shop is an independent repair service, not an Apple authorized service. Which part options exist for your model, and the quality of each one, the technician explains when you ask for the quote.
On Android the logic is similar, but the models vary a lot. On some, the screen comes attached to a frame and the replacement includes the whole part; on others, only the glass is replaced. The price depends on the phone and is set on WhatsApp.
Before you approve, ask for five answers: where the part comes from, what warranty it has, what could be lost, how long the repair takes and how the price works. A technician who knows the parts will answer without beating around the bush.
Help Cell offers a 90-day warranty that covers the service. Keep your receipt, because it is your proof if something comes up later.
After the replacement, test the phone the same day: if something is wrong, the repair is still fresh in the technician's memory and within your warranty. Set aside five minutes to check everything.
Also use a screen protector on the new screen. It protects the glass and keeps the first drop from needing another replacement.
If the phone already had the defect before the repair, show it to the technician. That way you both can separate what was wrong with the phone from what is related to the new part.
The price depends on the model and the type of part. Send your model on WhatsApp +55 48 99110-7381 and Help Cell will tell you the price of each option.
Not always. Some are good and give you an image and touch close to the original. The problem is the low-quality ones, which lose brightness and fail early.
Almost never. The difference shows up in use: brightness, color, touch and battery use. So ask the technician to explain where the part comes from and test the screen while it is on.
In general, face unlock depends on sensors that sit outside the screen, but True Tone can be lost on some parts. It depends on the model, so check before you approve.
It can, especially the simpler ones and the ones that switch OLED for LCD. The difference is smaller with the higher-quality parts.
If the phone is still under the manufacturer's warranty, a repair outside the authorized service network can affect that coverage. Help Cell is independent and is not an Apple authorized service, so think about this before you decide.
On most models, up to 2 hours. For rarer models, the shop tells you the time before it starts the service.
No. Replacing the screen does not erase photos, contacts or apps. If the phone still turns on, make a backup to be safe.
