When you choose between an authorized or independent repair shop, the authorized shop is the brand's official network, and the independent shop is a separate workshop that only repairs devices. See what changes in warranty, time, data and parts.
Summary
An authorized repair shop has a contract with the manufacturer and follows its rules. An independent repair shop is a separate company, not tied to any brand, that makes its living repairing devices and sets its own process.
Neither one is best at everything. Each fits a different situation. The right choice depends on three things: whether the phone is still under the manufacturer's warranty, how long you can go without it, and what is broken.
An authorized shop is a repair center accredited by the manufacturer to service its devices. It usually follows the brand's official procedure and, as a rule, uses parts supplied by the manufacturer. It is the natural choice when the defect is covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
An independent shop is a workshop focused on repairs, with technicians who work on many brands at the same counter. It does not replace the manufacturer's warranty, but it works outside of it, and it usually has more freedom to choose the type of repair and the part.
To decide quickly, compare the two types on the points that matter most for your wallet and your day-to-day. The table shows what tends to change, without numbers: prices and times vary by brand, model and defect.
| Comparison point | Authorized | Independent |
|---|---|---|
| Link to the brand | Accredited by the manufacturer. | Independent, with no brand accreditation. |
| Manufacturer warranty | Covers repairs under the manufacturer's warranty. | Does not cover manufacturer warranty repairs. |
| Parts | Follows the manufacturer's standard. | Varies by shop; ask which part will be used. |
| Type of repair | Tends to replace the whole module. | Can repair the component, such as the logic board. |
| Time | Depends on the queue and on parts arriving. | Depends on the shop; simple swaps can be done while you wait. |
| Brands served | Only the brand that accredits it. | Many brands in the same place. |
| Price | Follows the brand's price list. | Agreed with the shop, case by case. |
Notice that the difference is not "good" versus "bad". It is a difference in rules: the authorized shop follows the manufacturer's rulebook, and the independent shop answers only for itself and for the warranty it offers on its own work.
Choose an authorized shop when the phone is still under the manufacturer's warranty and the defect is a factory defect, or when you want the repair to follow the brand's official standard. In these cases, repairing it somewhere else may complicate your coverage.
This matters most for a new phone. Before you repair it anywhere else, read the manufacturer's warranty terms and check whether they still apply. If the defect is a factory defect, the repair itself may cost you nothing, and then the choice is simple.
Out of warranty, an authorized shop can be more expensive or slower, because it follows the brand's price list and queue. In many cases the official fix is to replace the whole assembly, even when only one small part failed.
Choose an independent shop when the manufacturer's warranty has already ended, when you need your phone back fast, or when the defect is a logic board problem, water damage or an older model. This is where an independent shop is usually more flexible.
An independent phone repair shop also helps people who have phones from different brands at home or at work, because everything is handled in one place. And since the owner is responsible for the service, the conversation is usually direct, without a formal protocol.
Whether the shop is authorized or independent, ask the same questions before you leave your phone. The answers show whether the shop is serious and help you avoid surprises when you pick up your phone.
| Ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Which part will be used? | It sets the quality and how the phone behaves after the repair. |
| What is the warranty on the service and on the part? | Shows whether the shop stands behind its work, and for how long. |
| How long will it take? | Lets you plan how long you will be without your phone. |
| Will my data stay on the phone? | For part repairs, it usually stays; ask for confirmation first. |
| Does the price include everything? | Avoids extra charges after the repair has started. |
| Can I get the quote in writing? | Serves as proof of what was agreed. |

Be wary of any shop that does not explain what it will do, does not tell you which part it will use, or promises a warranty without saying how long it lasts. These are the most common warning signs, both at authorized and at independent shops.
A shop with a known address and direct contact is easier to reach if something goes wrong. Also check customer reviews on Google before you decide.
Help Cell is an independent and specialized phone repair shop. It is not an Apple authorized shop, and it is not authorized by any other brand. It has operated since 2007 in Florianópolis, today at Floripa Shopping, with technicians who have more than 10 years at the workbench and with our own technicians doing all the work.
This means Help Cell does not handle manufacturer warranty repairs. If your phone is still covered by the manufacturer, check that coverage first. Outside of it, the shop repairs phones from all brands, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch and AirPods, with screen and battery swaps ready in up to 2 hours in most cases.
Repairs done at Help Cell come with Help Cell's own 90-day warranty. To learn what it covers and how to claim it, see the 90-day warranty page for phone repair and the guide 90-day warranty: what it covers and how to claim it.
The shop does not sell phones, does not unlock devices, and does not do regular computer repair, such as laptops from other brands, SSDs or viruses. If your case is one of these, it is better to know before you go there.
It depends on the manufacturer's rules and on the type of defect. If the phone is still under the manufacturer's warranty, read its conditions before you take it to another shop. If the warranty has already ended, there is nothing to lose.
It varies from shop to shop. That is why you should ask "Which part will be used?" before you agree. At Help Cell, the type of part for each service is told to you when you contact us on WhatsApp.
There is no fixed rule. The price changes with the brand, the model and the defect. The safest way is to ask for a quote at both places and compare the time and the warranty too, not only the price.
In screen and battery swaps, photos and apps usually stay on the phone. With logic board problems or a phone that won't turn on, the risk is higher. Back up your data whenever the phone still turns on.
No. Help Cell is an independent and specialized repair shop. It does not handle Apple manufacturer warranty repairs, but it repairs iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch and AirPods outside the warranty.
Help Cell offers its own 90-day warranty on the service. Check the conditions on the warranty page, or ask on WhatsApp before you agree to the repair.
It depends on the defect. At Help Cell, screen and battery swaps are ready in up to 2 hours on most models. For other repairs, the time is told to you after the assessment.
