What is repair for a phone with no sound

It is the repair of the parts that make and pick up audio on Android: the speaker, the earpiece speaker and the microphone. When one of them stops working, the phone stays on, but you stop hearing or being heard. Your device, data and apps stay the same.

Before replacing any part, the technician checks whether the fault is in the part or in a setting, because many people find the problem was just a setting. Only then is the phone opened.

The main speaker plays music, video, ringtones and speakerphone, and is usually at the bottom of the phone. The earpiece speaker is at the top and is the one you hold to your ear on a call. What nobody tells you before fixing your phone's sound

Many people replace a part they don't need, or use the phone in a way that makes the fault worse. These are the points that make the most difference.

Common mistakes with a phone with no sound

Poking the grille with a needle or toothpick

Anyone who tries to remove dirt with a sharp object can puncture the protective mesh over the part and push the dirt inside. If you want to clean it, use a soft brush, gently, with the phone turned off.

Replacing the part without testing the rest

If the speaker is replaced but the fault was in the board's electrical path, the sound still doesn't come back and the money is gone. That is why the check comes before the part.

Drying a wet phone with a hair dryer or rice

Strong heat can damage the part, and rice does not remove moisture from inside. Turn the phone off and ask for chemical cleaning for water damage as soon as possible.

Checklist: test this before you take the phone in

Check the volumes and silent mode

On many phones, ringtone, media and call volumes are separate. Turn all three up and check that silent mode is off.

Disconnect Bluetooth and take off the earphones

Sound may be going to a speaker, earphones or the car. Turn Bluetooth off and test again.

Remove the case and record a voice memo

Record your voice with a voice recorder app and play it back. If the recording is silent or low, the microphone is the suspect; if it records well but you hear nothing, the speaker is the suspect.

Restart the phone

A restart fixes temporary software glitches. If the sound comes back and disappears again, tell the technician, because that is a sign of a loose connection.

Will I lose my phone's data?

When the speaker or microphone is replaced, photos, contacts and apps stay on the phone. Even so, back up first if the phone still turns on. Help Cell also does data backup.

My phone has no sound: is it always the part?

Does the audio repair come with a warranty?

Yes. The 90-day warranty covers the repair and the part against defects. It does not cover a fall, liquid or misuse after the repair.

My phone got wet and has no sound. Can it be fixed?

The phone needs to be checked first. If liquid got in, the priority is chemical cleaning, because replacing the speaker first can hide corrosion. Turn the phone off and don't charge it until the check.

Can I just use earphones until it's fixed?
