Common mistakes with the MacBook keyboard
Trying to pull a key off by force
MacBook keys are thin and their clips break easily. Pulling on a stuck key often damages the mechanism and turns a small problem into a keyboard replacement.
Typing on after a liquid spill

Ignoring a swollen battery

Back up if the laptop still turns on
The keyboard replacement does not erase files, but a backup protects you from anything unexpected. If the keyboard fails often, use Time Machine or the cloud.
Write down the model

It depends on the model. When only one key broke and the rest is fine, sometimes only that key can be replaced. If several keys fail or the fault comes back, replacing the whole keyboard is usually safer. The technician checks and explains.
