Common mistakes with a MacBook battery
Continuing to charge a swollen battery
If the base lifts, the trackpad does not click properly, or the laptop sits crooked on the table, stop charging it and bring it in. A swollen lithium-ion battery should come out of the device as soon as possible.
Leaving it plugged in and in the heat
Using the MacBook plugged in for months, on a bed or a sofa, heats the battery and shortens its life. A firm, ventilated surface helps.
Thinking the only problem is the battery

Check the battery health
In System Settings, in the Battery section, macOS shows the battery condition. If it says "Service Recommended", write it down and tell Help Cell.
